Yes. Our motivation was to save lives. Estimates are over million Americans would have been injured or killed if the US invaded mainland Japan, which it WAS going to do. ONE MILLION AMERICANS! There were going to be at least six times that in Japanese, and most of these would have been civilians who were killed.
